What is the Eternal Purpose of God?

The eternal purpose of God is His amazing and glorious plan from eternity to eternity, and there are so many questions to be examined. Why did God create the heavens and the earth? Why did He create mankind? What’s His purpose? Or, was creation just an accident, or a hobby, or relief from boredom?

These, and other questions, need to be answered if we are to understand the divine purpose and plan, and where we fit into it. During the mentoring programs this will be a key topic for investigation and discussion.

Some of the key points and scriptures to be looked at:

In Ephesians 3:1-12, Paul discusses the amazing divine plan which he describes as being “according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Many times, we see hints of God’s awesome eternal purpose through events where the scriptures use phrases indicating God has a plan, and that plan goes back into eternity before creation. What implications does that have for our understanding of divine omnipotence and human freewill?

Look at some of these pre-creation decisions which need to be understood to get a reading on what was in God’s heart when He began the process, and what does it mean for us as individuals, and collectively as the people of God?

1Corinthians 2:7-8, “we declare God's wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

Ephesians 1:4, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”

Romans 8:28-29, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

1Peter 1:18-20, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world.”

These few verses give us a brief insight into some of what will be investigated in this amazing subject. There are numerous more verses to investigate, and when we learn to align ourselves to the heart and will of God, His transformative power will blossom in our lives and ministries.
